More than 100 experts and specialists from the Ministry of Public Health, ministries and national bodies participated in a workshop held by the World Health Organization office in the State of Qatar in cooperation with the Ministry of Health on the National Health Security Plan for Health Security.
The National Health Security Plan for Health Security provides a comprehensive framework to ensure the readiness of the State of Qatar for prevention, detection and response to health threats, starting from the outbreak of infectious diseases to chemical, biological and radiological risks.
The workshop was collected by representatives from government agencies, health care providers, academic circles, civil society, and partner organizations with the aim of enhancing Qatar’s capabilities to prepare and respond to health emergencies.
The event included discussions and technical activities with experts from the health emergency team at the World Health Organization office of the eastern Mediterranean region as well as from the organization’s headquarters, in order to assess current capabilities, determine priority gaps, and develop a comprehensive national health security plan.
Dr. Soha Al -Bayat, Director of the Health Emergency Department at the Ministry of Public Health, said that the workshop reflects Qatar’s commitment to international health regulations and ensuring the highest standards of health and well -being, as it is an essential step in developing the national health security plan.
In turn, Dr. Ryan Bou Haqa, a World Health Organization representative in Qatar, said that health security is one of the most important priorities for the World Health Organization’s partnership with Qatar, as the workshop represents an important step in joint efforts to develop and enhance the capabilities of the advanced willingness and response in the State of Qatar.
Through the workshop, Qatar renewed its commitment to promoting national health security, while contributing to regional and international efforts to protect societies from emerging threats.
The workshop, which lasted 5 days, concluded with a set of agreed steps to enhance coordination between sectors, building technical and operational capabilities, and ensuring the sustainability of efforts to enhance health security in the long term across all sectors.
The Ministry of Public Health stated that the results of the workshop contribute to directing the next stage of implementing the National Health Security Plan, in line with the National Health Strategy in Qatar and the World Health Organization priorities to prepare and respond to emergency.
