The players of the Qatari table tennis team won 20 colored medals, including 4 gold, two silver, and 14 bronze medals, during their participation in the West Asian Table Tennis Championship for the teams hosted by the Jordanian capital, Amman, with the participation of the teams of Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Palestine, Oman, Iraq, Bahrain, and the Emirates, and they competed in all age groups (men and women, young men and women, young men and women). And male and female cubs).
The four gold medals for Qatar were won by Abdulaziz Nasser Abdullah in the under-15 singles category, Muhammad Abdul-Wahab and Abdullah Abdul-Wahab in the men’s doubles category, Ahmed Al-Qarni and Rawad Al-Nasser in the under-19 doubles category, and the team gold for males in the under-19 category.
As for the two silver medals, they were won by Sultan Al Kuwari in the under-19 category, and Serena Sheikh and Dana Al Kaabi in the under-13 female doubles category.
The 14 bronze medals for Qatar came with 8 medals for the singles and doubles categories and 6 team medals by Mohammed Abdel-Wahab in the men’s singles category, Ahmed Al-Qarni and Rawad Al-Nasser in the under-19 singles category, Mohammed Al-Sulaiti in the under-17 singles category, Aya Magdy and Mohammed Abdel-Wahab in the mixed doubles category, Aya Magdy and Maryam Ali in the women’s doubles category, and Abdulaziz Nasser Abdullah and Issa. Al-Haddad in the under-15 male doubles category, and Ahmed Al-Abdullah and Muhammad Al-Qutaiti in the under-11 male category.
In the team competitions, 6 bronze medals were won for Qatar: the U-11 male, U-13 female, U-13 male, U-15 male, and U-17 male teams, in addition to the women’s team.
Mr. Hamad Ahmed Al Hammadi, President of the Qatar Table Tennis Federation, expressed his happiness with the achievement achieved by the Qatari teams during their participation in the West Asian Table Tennis Championship for teams hosted by the Jordanian capital, Amman, praising the distinguished levels presented by the male and female players, and the competitive spirit and great determination they showed throughout the tournament competitions.
Al-Hammadi said, in statements to Qatar News Agency (QNA), that Qatar’s winning of 20 colored medals, including 4 gold, two silver, and 14 bronze, in various age groups, represents the result of the great efforts made by the federation in developing the game and honing promising talents, stressing that this achievement reflects the continuous development of Qatari table tennis, and confirms its ability to compete and achieve honorable results at the regional and continental levels.
He added: “The competitions in the West Asian Championship were strong and exciting, and witnessed the participation of an elite group of male and female players from the participating countries, which gave the tournament a distinguished technical level, but that did not prevent the players of our national teams from presenting strong levels, achieving positive results, and topping the podiums in many categories.”
He continued: “We are proud of what our sons and daughters have achieved in this tournament, not only because of the number of medals we obtained, but also because of the technical and competitive levels they demonstrated, the high spirit they displayed, and their keenness to represent Qatar in the best way and raise the flag of Qatar high in this sporting forum.”
Al Hammadi explained that the diversity of medals between individual, doubles and team competitions, and between different age groups, confirms that the base of the game in Qatar is witnessing continuous growth, indicating that the federation will continue to work to support male and female players and provide them with the best technical and preparation conditions, which contributes to building a generation capable of continuing the process of achievements in the coming years.
The President of the Qatar Table Tennis Federation stressed that ambitions do not stop at this achievement, and said: “We always aspire to the best, and we seek to make these results an additional incentive for our players to continue working and developing. We have important obligations ahead of us during the coming period, and we will continue to prepare our teams optimally in order to appear at the level that befits Qatari table tennis.”
Al Hammadi pointed out that the next stage will be very important, especially with the preparations to participate in the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games next month, stressing that the federation is looking forward to achieving positive results in this major continental competition. He added: “We will continue to work seriously, because the competition in the Asian Games will be different and requires the highest levels of readiness and focus. Our goal is to provide honorable levels and compete strongly in order to achieve the best possible results on behalf of the State of Qatar.”
