Al-Sadd tied with its guest, Al-Ahly Saudi Arabia, without goals, in the match that took place at Jassim bin Hamad Stadium yesterday, within the fourth round of the league stage for the Western Region in the AFC Champions League for Elite Football. Al-Sadd won its second point in the tournament, occupying fifteenth place, while Al-Ahly, the holder of the title of the past two editions of the tournament, raised its score to the eighth point.
Al-Sadd delayed posing a threat to their opponent’s goal until the 13th minute, when Brazilian Giovanni Henrique bypassed one of the defenders and passed the ball towards Youssef Abdel-Razzaq in front of the goal, but the defense intervened at the right time, and Al-Ahly responded with a powerful shot by Ukrainian Artem Bondarenko in the 15th minute. The last minutes of the first half witnessed offensive activity and the most dangerous chances, at the initiative of Al-Ahly, which was close to scoring through a shot from Brazilian Anderson Galeno to end the half. The first was a goalless draw, and Al Sadd was close to scoring at the beginning of the second half, after Brazilian Roberto Firmino found himself facing the goal following a pass from his compatriot Henrique, firing a powerful shot that was blocked by goalkeeper Edouard Mendy in the 52nd minute, before Mendy returned and blocked Claudinho’s shot in the 64th minute, and the final minutes did not bring anything new in terms of the score, so the match ended in a scoreless draw.
In the second match, Al-Gharafa team lost to Al-Qadisiyah Saudi Arabia with a score of 5-0, in the confrontation that brought together the two teams yesterday evening, Monday, at Thani Bin Jassim Stadium in Al-Gharafa Club. The goals of Al-Qadisiyah were scored by Muhammad Abu Al-Shamat in the 17th minute, Julian Quiñones in the 26th and 45th minutes, Yasser Al-Shahrani in the 43rd minute, and Muhammad Al-Qahtani in the 81st minute, so the Saudi team settled the confrontation with five clean goals. With this loss, Al-Gharafa continues its negative results in the Asian Championship, and its score stopped at zero points in last place, while Al-Qadisiyah’s score rose to 8 points.
