The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Qatar Diamond Exchange saw that there are promising opportunities to enhance and expand the scope of cooperation with African countries, noting that Africa plays a pivotal role in the global diamond industry.

This came during a visit by His Excellency Samuel Matekane, Prime Minister and Minister of Defense and National Security of the Kingdom of Lesotho, and a number of ambassadors of African countries and diplomats accredited to the country, to the headquarters of the Qatar Diamond Exchange in the Ras Bufontas Free Zone.

For her part, Her Excellency Ms. Valerie Lusamba Kabia, Ambassador of the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the country, noted the importance of cooperation with the Qatar Diamond Exchange and working to strengthen ties between African diamond-producing countries and international markets.

She added: “Africa contains some of the largest diamond reserves in the world, and it is necessary that the returns from these resources are reflected in achieving greater economic benefits for our countries. The diamond industry not only represents a vital tributary to our economies, but also provides promising opportunities for future generations. As one of the most prominent diamond producing countries, the Democratic Republic of the Congo looks forward to building partnerships that support the long-term growth of this industry, and provide more opportunities for African companies.”

This visit comes within the framework of the Qatar Diamond Exchange’s efforts to strengthen international relations and explore new opportunities for cooperation in the field of diamond trade, and openness to the African continent, which is home to a number of the most prominent diamond-producing countries in the world. It also reflects the stock exchange’s strategic vision to connect producing countries, manufacturers, customers and international markets.
