The Gulf Organization for Research and Development, GORD, and Waseef Company, a subsidiary of Barwa Real Estate Company, signed a memorandum of understanding to establish cooperation in the field of sustainability, energy efficiency, and reducing carbon emissions in line with the Qatar National Strategy for Environment and Climate Change and the pillars of the Qatar National Vision 2030.
Under the memorandum, the Gulf Organization will provide the necessary support to Waseef Company to explore opportunities available to obtain the Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS) certification for the projects it manages, in addition to developing a reference strategy for the existing buildings managed by Waseef with regard to energy and water use indicators, as well as providing the necessary support to enhance The quality of technical services provided by the entities and companies contracting with Waseef in a manner consistent with the areas of sustainability, in addition to cooperation in aspects related to contracts and buildings to achieve efficient rationalization of energy and water uses.
Dr. Yousef bin Mohammed Al-Horr, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Gulf Organization for Research and Development, who signed the memorandum on behalf of Gord, said: The buildings and construction sector contributes significantly to carbon dioxide emissions, so enhancing the efficiency of energy and water use in new and existing buildings is considered a major factor in Operations to reduce these emissions and limit the phenomenon of climate change.
He added: “By signing the memorandum of understanding with Waseef Company, we seek to enhance cooperation opportunities with the aim of applying sustainable construction standards in the various Waseef projects. Our goal is to reduce the carbon footprint of these projects in line with the Qatar National Strategy for Environment and Climate Change and the pillars of the Qatar National Vision 2030.”
It is noteworthy that the signing of the memorandum of understanding between the two parties took place on the sidelines of a knowledge exchange forum entitled “Towards a more resilient future with climate change: a 15-year legacy in the field of environmental sustainability,” organized within the activities of the Project Qatar 2024 exhibition, and it highlighted the organization’s efforts in the field of Promote innovation and build community capacity to enable sustainable, low-carbon growth for current and future generations.
