Apple Inc., the American technology giant, is planning a new version of the “Mac Mini,” which will be the smallest computer the company has ever produced.
According to Bloomberg, the new device is the result of developments in Mac devices equipped with digital processors supported by artificial intelligence.
The new model, due to launch later this year, will represent the first major design change for the Mac mini since its revamp under Steve Jobs in 2010.
The device will be much smaller than its predecessor, approaching the size of an Apple TV, according to the people, who asked not to be identified.
The updated mini is one of several new Macs that will be unveiled over the next few months.
The company is preparing to launch new iMac and MacBook Pro models with M4 digital processors, early this year. MacBook Air devices are in development for next spring, and the Mac Pro and Mac Studio models are scheduled to be launched in the middle of next year.
In a new achievement for Apple, this is the first time the company has put the same generation of M4 processors in all of its Macs. The M4 silicon processor — already found in the iPad Pro — powers new AI features that Apple will begin rolling out later this year.
