Canada and the United States announced the completion of negotiations on an agreement for the Canadian government to use U.S. space launch technology, expertise and data.

Canada’s vibrant and growing commercial space launch industry depends on its ability to collaborate across borders, said Mélanie Joly, Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs. “The conclusion of negotiations between Canada and the United States brings us one step closer to finalizing this agreement, which, when it enters into force, will position Canada to be a world leader in commercial space launch,” she said.

It is worth noting that in 2021, Canada decided to enter the space competition by sending a rover to the surface of the moon within 5 years, and Ottawa announced, at that time, its great ambition to enhance its competitive share in the growing global space market.
