United Development Company (UDC), the master developer of The Pearl and Gewan Islands, has been awarded the British Safety Council’s International Safety Award 2024 for the fourth time, in recognition of its efforts in health, safety and wellbeing.
The company said in a statement today that amidst the competition in this field, the United Development Company emerged as one of 269 institutions worldwide to receive the “Excellence Award” for Gewan Island and the “Winner Award” for The Pearl Island.
The statement added that UDC demonstrates its commitment to health, safety and well-being practices, achieving significant milestones including completing 20.4 million safe working hours with a low lost time injury rate of 0.005, and maintaining an outstanding injury frequency rate of 0.07 against a target rate of 3.0. The company also enhanced its commitment to safety through 15,427 health, safety and environment inspections, 160 drills, 3,155 workplace safety awareness talks and 1,152 leadership safety tours. In addition, it achieved 100% compliance with all planned health, safety and environment audits, inspections and initiatives.
She explained that her participation in global safety initiatives demonstrates the company’s commitment in this area, not only to regulatory compliance, but also to a strong commitment to supporting a safe and sound work environment, as her initiatives include issuing comprehensive reports on quality, health, safety and the environment, informational materials, and ongoing reviews of business continuity plans and assessment processes.
UDC also organizes safety leadership tours, mock emergency drills, fire and life-saving inspections, and health and safety campaigns. While these efforts are in line with ISO 45001:2018 standards for occupational health and safety management systems, they also support the company’s commitment to best practices and continuous improvement in health, safety, security and the environment.
UDC’s receipt of the International Safety Award highlights its leadership in setting exemplary standards for health and safety on The Pearl and Gewan Islands, by protecting the safety of its employees and stakeholders and ensuring a flexible and sustainable operating environment.
