Al Duhail achieved a great victory over Al Sadd, with five goals to one, in the match that took place between them today at Khalifa International Stadium in the fifth round of the Qatar Football League / Ooredoo Stars League /.
Al Duhail’s goals were scored by Kenyan Michael Olunga in minute (14), Edmilson Junior with two goals in minutes (28 and 41), Humam Al Amin in minute (33), and Al Moez Ali in minute (57), while Hassan Al Haydos scored Al Sadd’s only goal in minute (45+2).
Al Duhail maintained its winning streak in the league, reaching 15 points, five points ahead of Al Ahli, who will face Al Arabi tomorrow, Sunday.
On the other hand, Al Sadd suffered its second consecutive loss and its third in the tournament, so its score froze at six points and it is now threatened with losing its current third place in the tournament standings, pending the rest of the round’s results.
Al Duhail had an ideal first half, their best since the start of the season, imposing an early and clear advantage on the proceedings through control, possession and smooth and successive access to Al Sadd’s goal, which began less than six minutes into the match when Al Duhail won a penalty kick after Edmilson Junior was fouled by defender Pedro Miguel, so Michael Olunga executed the kick, but goalkeeper Meshaal Barsham excelled in blocking it.
Despite missing the kick, Al Duhail continued to press, and Olunga was able to make up for what he missed, when he scored the first goal after a distinctive tactical move, as the ball reached Karim Boudiaf who passed it to the Kenyan striker who deposited it in the net in the (14) minute, giving his team the lead goal.
Al Duhail took advantage of Al Sadd’s poor defensive situation to continue threatening through Edmilson, who shot next to the post in minute (21), before the same player returned to score the second goal after a distinguished individual effort, bypassing more than one defender, and shot a creeping ball that settled into the net in minute (28).
Edmilson continued to perform brilliantly when he provided a special pass to Hammam Al Amin who faced the goalkeeper and shot into the goal, scoring the third goal for Al Duhail in the (33) minute, before Edmilson confirmed that he was the undisputed star of the match when he scored the fourth goal with a precise long-range shot that found its way into the net of goalkeeper Meshaal Barsham in the (41) minute.
In stoppage time, Al Sadd managed to reduce the difference when the Spaniard Rafa Mujica penetrated and fired a powerful shot that was blocked by goalkeeper Salah Zakaria, but it fell to Hassan Al Haydos who put it in the goal in the (45+2) minute, so the first half ended with Al Duhail leading by four goals to one.
Al Duhail started the second half with the same strength they showed at the beginning of the match, as Edmilson gave a special pass to Almoez Ali, who was alone in front of the goal but missed a golden opportunity by shooting the ball next to the post in minute (50), before quickly making up for what he missed by scoring the fifth goal with a header after a perfect cross from Karim Boudiaf in minute (57).
Al Sadd coach Felix Sanchez made several substitutions to improve his team’s position, bringing in Mosaab Khader, Spaniard Cristo Gonzalez, and Hashem Abdul Latif, to improve Al Sadd’s performance, especially in light of the decline in Al Duhail’s offensive effectiveness after the best player in the match, Edmilson Junior, left by decision of French coach Christophe Galtier, in light of his team’s great superiority in the result.
Substitute Hashem Ali almost scored for Al Sadd when he faced the goal in minute (82) and shot a powerful ball that was blocked by goalkeeper Salah Zakaria, who returned to thwart the attempt of the Spaniard Cristo in minute (85).
The last minutes did not witness any new developments in the score, and the match ended with Al Duhail defeating Al Sadd by five goals to one, securing the top spot in the standings with a full score of five consecutive victories.
