The German Society of General and Family Medicine said that some symptoms herald the child’s esophagitis.
Symptoms include:
- Refusing food
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Abdominal pain
- Pain in the rib cage
- Swallowing difficulties
- Weight loss
The association explained that esophagitis in children often occurs as a result of allergies such as nasal allergies or food allergies such as milk, egg, wheat or soy allergies, in addition to asthma.
Esophagitis in children is treated with medications such as proton pump inhibitors and topical oral cortisone, along with diet modification (avoiding allergens).
If the child suffers from esophageal stricture, the esophagus is dilated using an endoscope.
