“Trade” warns the shops of the absence of electronic payment service

The Ministry of Trade and Industry has called on the owners of commercial establishments to provide electronic payment service in the store, to avoid any penalties for that. Trade and Industry confirmed in a post on the social networking site X that, according to Ministerial Resolution No. (161) of 2017, and Law No. (5) of 2015, all commercial establishments must provide electronic payment service to consumers.
The failure to provide electronic payment services to consumers is contrary to the provisions of Article No. (18) of Law No. (5) for the year 2015, and its penalty for administrative closure for a period of (15) days, or for a period determined by the competent department.
The Ministry stressed that the credit card user or the direct withdrawal card must be treated when paying his purchases with the same treatment of the customer who pays cash. And absolutely refrain from collecting any commissions when purchasing or when the value of purchases that take place through credit cards or direct withdrawal card.
Trade called on consumers to report any place that adopts an additional commission seizure when purchasing or when returning the value of purchases that are carried out with a credit card or a direct withdrawal card.
The Qatar Central Bank has announced the registration of about 54 million transactions on all payment systems in the State of Qatar at an estimated value of 15 billion and 280 million riyals during the month of May, indicating that the points of sale received 56% of them, while the share of e -commerce was about 26%, while the payment system immediately acquired 17%, while the payment system came through the mobile phone at the last rank of about 1% of transactions.
The Central Bank revealed that the payment statistics using cards in May 2025 included transactions on sales devices with a total value of 8 billion and 547 million riyals with a number of transactions of 42 million and 736 thousand transactions, while transactions on e -commerce with a total of 3 billion and 965 million riyals and the number of transactions reached 9 million and 446 thousand transactions.
