US President Donald Trump said that his country may consider rejoining the World Health Organization, despite his signing a decision to withdraw from it immediately after arriving at the White House on January 20.

Speaking during a rally in the American city of Las Vegas on Saturday, Trump said that his country was paying the organization $500 million annually, while China, despite its much larger population, was paying only $39 million.

He added: But we may think about joining the World Health Organization again.

On January 22, the Chairman of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, called on Trump to reconsider the decision to withdraw the United States from the World Health Organization.

On Monday, the US President signed a presidential decree on his first day in office, requiring him to withdraw from the United Nations World Health Organization.

The text of the resolution stated that the reasons for the United States’ withdrawal include the organization’s mismanagement of the (Covid-19) crisis resulting from Wuhan in China and other global health crises, its failure to adopt the urgent reforms required, and its inability to maintain its independence in the face of inappropriate political influence from member states.

The text also noted that the WHO continued to unfairly demand exorbitant financial contributions from the United States.
