The World Health Organization said on Thursday that hundreds of millions of children and teenagers around the world face violence daily in their homes, schools and other places, which may lead to lifelong consequences.
The World Health Organization reported that violence includes beatings by family members, exposure to bullying at school, in addition to physical, emotional and sexual violence.
In most cases, violence occurs behind closed doors.
According to the World Health Organization, more than half of those between the ages of two and 17 – more than a billion minors in total – are exposed to violence every year.
3 out of 5 children and adolescents are exposed to physical violence at home, and 1 in 5 girls and 1 in 7 boys are exposed to sexual violence. Between a quarter and a half of minors are affected by bullying, according to the information provided.
It is reported that only half of children talk about their experiences with violence, and that less than 10% of them receive help.
