The second Qatari-Korean Artificial Intelligence Forum kicked off today, under the slogan “New Horizons and Business Opportunities,” organized by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Doha and the Korea Trade Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), with the participation of officials and experts from both sides.
The forum witnessed discussions focused on the future of artificial intelligence and enhancing bilateral cooperation in the digital fields.
Ms. Reem Mohammed Al Mansouri, Assistant Undersecretary for Digital Industry Affairs at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, stressed in her opening speech that the second edition of the forum represents an important platform for enhancing cooperation and expanding the horizons of partnership between the two countries, noting that the discussions moved from exchanging visions to practical cooperation and building implementable initiatives with a tangible impact.
She said that artificial intelligence has become an essential pillar for enhancing competitiveness between countries, and that the State of Qatar is placing it at the heart of the digital transformation path in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Digital Agenda 2030, as it seeks to contribute to building a regional system based on trust, innovation and qualitative partnerships.
She added that Qatar has achieved advanced positions globally in the field of digital infrastructure, including first place in secure infrastructure within the 2025 Innovation Index, and second place globally in mobile Internet speed, in addition to the United Nations’ praise of the 2030 Digital Agenda as one of the best practices.
For his part, Mr. Sami Muhammad Al-Shammari, Assistant Undersecretary for Infrastructure and Operations Affairs at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, stressed that digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence and digital sovereignty represent essential pillars for the future of digital transformation, noting that the State of Qatar has moved to a new phase that focuses on transforming national strategies into tangible practical results.
He said that the country has built, over the past years, a strong base in digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, data governance, and government services, enabling it to expand applications of artificial intelligence on a large scale within the government sector. He pointed out that the ministry is working to raise the readiness of government agencies for artificial intelligence, and to develop more than 50 use cases for artificial intelligence in the government sector by 2029, in a way that enhances the efficiency of services and raises their quality.
He also explained that artificial intelligence applications have begun to achieve tangible results in improving government operations, automating procedures, and raising operational efficiency, stressing that the success of artificial intelligence does not depend on technology only, but on institutional readiness, trust, and governance.
Mr. Sami Muhammad Al-Shammari stressed that the partnership between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Korea represents an important model of international cooperation in this field, given the expertise that Korea possesses in semiconductors, digital platforms and cybersecurity, in exchange for Qatar’s strategic vision and investment in digital infrastructure, noting that cooperation includes the areas of artificial intelligence infrastructure, smart government services, cloud computing and smart mobility.
