Regarding the new feature in the “Google Maps” application on the Android system, Google confirmed that this restriction is on the way to disappearing, as these features will be able to appear on the dashboard screen regardless of the presence of an activated destination within “Google Maps,” and the update is currently being rolled out gradually, which means that the feature may not appear to all users at the same time.
The launch of the new feature coincides with a separate problem that some Android Auto users faced recently, after they reported that the speedometer had completely disappeared from the screen. Google confirmed that it is investigating this problem as a software glitch and not a deliberate removal of the feature, which means that the disappearance of the speedometer for some users is not related to the new update. Therefore, drivers’ experience may differ at the present time depending on the version of the application and the device used, as some of them get the new feature gradually, while others face the problem of the disappearance of the speedometer that Google is still working on to solve.
This comes within a series of updates through which Google is working to redesign the Android Auto experience and update it more broadly. The company recently introduced a major update that adopts the more modern Material 3 Expressive design, along with tools designed to display important information quickly and without the need for prolonged interaction with the screen while driving.
Google has also expanded the availability of the Immersive Navigation feature, in addition to the live speedometer, to more users running stable versions of Android Auto, and with the addition of the ability to display speed, limits, and road signs even without turning on navigation, it appears that Google is gradually moving towards making Android Auto a platform more dependent on real-time information and ease of access while driving, rather than limiting some important features to trips that include a specific destination.
