The German Society of General and Family Medicine said that nail fungus infection can be inferred by observing some signs, so what are they?
Signs of nail fungus include:
- Cracking and splitting of nails.
- Nail color changes to white or yellow.
- Increase nail thickness.
In the worst case, the fungus may completely destroy the nail plate.
The association stressed the need to consult a dermatologist immediately upon noticing these symptoms in order to undergo timely treatment, which is antifungals.
Ways of prevention
To prevent nail fungus in the first place, the association recommends drying the feet well after washing them, especially the spaces between the toes, in order to prevent the fungus from multiplying. For this purpose, a hair dryer can be used to dry the spaces between the fingers.
Socks should also be washed at a temperature of no less than 56 degrees Celsius to destroy the socks, making sure not to share scissors or a file with others.
It is also important to wear sports shoes made of well-ventilated materials such as leather, making sure to ventilate the sneakers well after exercising and leave them to dry completely.
Dermatologists recommend not wearing the same sneakers for two days in a row.
In addition, you should not wear tight shoes, and it is also better to stay away from shoes with pointed toes, since these models do not provide enough space for the toes and rub against them, which increases the chances of contracting nail fungus.
