About 5 years after the emergence of the Corona virus, the number of deaths due to infection with this virus has declined steadily, according to what the World Health Organization announced in Geneva.
The organization explained that in June 2021, the Corona death rate reached one in 4 Corona patients in hospitals, while this rate currently reached one in 25 patients.
The United Nations organization provided a general assessment of the past five years, during which approximately 777 million cases of infection with the virus were recorded worldwide. The organization stated that the pandemic has claimed the lives of 7 million people in 234 countries. The years 2020, 2021, and 2022 represented the peak of the pandemic.
The organization said in its assessment that between mid-October and mid-November 2024, 77 countries reported cases of coronavirus.
The organization added that the problem of symptoms of what is known as “Long Covid” (long Covid) continues to raise concern, noting that recent data showed that 6% of Corona cases developed into “long Covid” cases.
The organization considered that vaccines against Corona are an effective means of protection to reduce possible subsequent damage.
The organization explained that the virus is still spreading without a clear seasonal pattern and still leads to illness that may be severe in some cases. The organization said that it is no longer working to monitor the spread of the virus, its severity, or potential changes in the virus as accurately as it was before, due to the significant reduction in Corona tests.
