Oman- The deviation of the pace, or the deviation of the nasal barrier is a common condition, so what causes and symptoms? What are the treatment options?
Dr. Sarah Hassan, Dr. Sarah Hassan, says that the deviation of the pace is a milan or the curvature of the nasal barrier, which is the cartilage and bonus wall that divides the nose into two air rooms equal in size. This deviation narrows one of the two rooms, which reduces air flow, affects the efficiency of the breathing process, and may cause other health problems.
Causes of deviation of the pace
Dr. Sarah added – in exclusive statements to the island – that the reasons for the deviation of the pace are divided into two main types: early evolutionary deviation, which may occur during the growth of the fetus as a result of the child’s position inside the womb or because of a shock exposed to it during normal birth. And the acquired deviation, which affects children or adults due to accidents, direct shocks such as traffic accidents or falls, in addition to practices such as violent sports such as ball and boxing, or wrong habits such as sleeping on the face or frequent tampering with the nose.
She explained that the symptoms differ according to the degree of deviation, in minor cases the patient does not feel any clear problem, which is suffering from approximately 80% of people, but in severe cases, clear symptoms such as: difficulty in nasal breathing, resort to oral breathing, sleep disorders such as snoring or night apnea, frequent infections in the sinuses, weakness or loss of sense of smell, dry mouth, frequent nasal bleeding, frequent nasal bleeding, frequent nasal bleeding, frequent nasal bleeding Chronic headache and face pain, as well as poor general concentration due to lack of oxygen.
Dr. Sarah Hassan stated that the common symptoms include chronic nose blockage, frequent headaches, frequent sinus infections, nose bleeding, dry mouth, snoring, and difficulty breathing during exercise.
She said that the diagnosis of the pace is first through pathological biography and clinical examination using a nasal endoscope to determine the deviation areas, and the extent of its effect on the breathing process, as in some cases the CT scans are used to detect the effect of deviation on the sinuses or other complications.
She advised to see a doctor when there is a clear difficulty of breathing from the nose, or frequent nasal pockets that do not respond to treatment, in addition to persistent headache or unjustified nasal bleeding.
Treatments available for pace deviation
Dr. Moaz Al -Jawarana, an ear, nose and throat specialist, said that Treatment varies depending on the condition. In simple cases, drug therapy can be used such as anti -congestion and allergies to improve breathing, but it does not treat the deviation itself, but in medium to severe cases, the solution may be the surgical intervention to adjust the nasal barrier and improve the airway.

Dr. Al -Jawarna – in special statements to the island – indicated that prevention starts from childhood, by reviewing a doctor when exposed to any injury in the nose to assess the need for treatment, avoid violent sports without protection, and treat respiratory problems in its early stages to avoid complications.
The passport said that there is a close relationship between the deviation of the pace and the allergy of the rhinitis or sinusitis, as the deviation leads to narrowing the airway, which increases congestion, increases the symptoms of allergies and infections, and thus increases the obstruction of the nose and weakens ventilation.
He added that patients with symptoms such as difficulty breathing, frequent headache, chronic infections in the sinuses or ear, or snoring during sleep, should review the nose, ear and throat specialist to assess the condition and obtain appropriate treatment. He also stressed the importance of seeing a doctor immediately after suffering an injury to the nose, as some cases can be treated early before exacerbating them.
