With the rise in summer temperatures… How do you get rid of the smell of sweat?

Sweating is a very natural – and even healthy – thing to do during the summer, as it helps cool the body in the heat. However, it can be a disturbing nightmare and expose a person to great embarrassment, especially if it causes stains on clothes or an unpleasant odor.

Dr. Sabina Stangl explains that bad body odor is caused by the decomposition of sweat by bacteria, noting that armpit hair is an ideal environment for their reproduction, so she recommends German dermatologist removes armpit hair to prevent bacteria from multiplying, thus reducing sweat secretion and decomposition.

armpit hair removal

Regarding how to remove armpit hair, Stangl recommended not resorting to waxing, because the skin under the armpit is very sensitive, and hair removal cream should not be used, in order to preserve the skin’s natural protective barrier.

Stangl also confirmed that a razor is the best way to remove armpit hair, recommending using a razor with sharp blades, while taking care to prepare the skin for shaving by washing it with warm water and applying a little shaving foam so that the razor can slide smoothly, in order to avoid skin irritation or wounds.

Shaving with an electric razor is also gentler on sensitive skin, as is laser hair removal.

Skin care

In addition to removing armpit hair, the skin should be taken care of regularly. It should be washed immediately after sweating using soap, in order to not give bacteria a chance to multiply.

After washing and drying the skin well, a deodorant should be used. In the case of heavy sweating, what is known as “antiperspirants” can be used, which not only reduce the unpleasant odor, but also work to reduce the secretion of sweat in the first place.

Hyperhidrosis

For her part, German dermatologist Uta Schlossberger stressed the need to consult a doctor if hyperhidrosis is suspected, which can be inferred from some signs, such as excessive and uncontrollable sweating.

Other signs of hyperhidrosis include excessive sweating when there is no need for it, for example in cold weather or during rest periods when there is no physical effort, and sweat dripping from the body, which leaves stains on clothes and shoes.

Schlossberger explained that hyperhidrosis is divided into two types: primary and secondary, noting that the primary type is due to genetic factors, while the secondary type may be due to the following reasons:

  • Anemia
  • hyperthyroidism
  • Low blood sugar in diabetics
  • Rheumatology
  • tuberculosis
  • Heart disease (such as irregular heartbeat and heart failure)
  • Tumors (such as leukemia and lymphoma)
  • Hormonal changes (such as menopause in women)
  • Mental illnesses (such as anxiety disorder and panic attacks)
  • A side effect of some medications such as beta blockers, thyroid hormones, antidepressants, or cortisone preparations

In addition to treating the main disease, excessive sweating can be treated with antiperspirants, medications based on aluminum chloride, direct current treatments, Botox injections and surgery.
